Explosive player who should be capable of spelling Bradshaw right away. Have faith guys......they had this player rated that highly for a reason. Giants definitely do their homework. I can't wait to see
Wilson in action.
One site literally says he's a "Bradshaw" type...of course we got our Bradshaw late in the draft
I'm hoping a Barber type.
We'll see obviously...for all the comments about Scott not being able to block, apparently this kid can't either. Being a generous 5'10" prolly doesn't help that.
OVERVIEW
Wilson is an electrifying runner who opted to come out early after an incredible junior year in which he was named ACC Player of the Year. He truly runs with his own style, and it's obvious that he has a love for the game. He is a high-risk, high-reward player who loves to reverse field on the entire defense. He is a decorated track star who is a threat to the defense every time he touches the ball.
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Wilson is extremely explosive and quick-twitched off the snap. He can quickly accelerate to top speed, and he makes the most of his small frame by lowering his pad level into hits. He is so explosive and generates such movement with his leg drive that he is capable of running over linebackers, but he prefers to use his agility to make guys miss in space. Wilson is just as electric working as a receiver out of the backfield or in the slot as he is as a ball carrier, and he could be used in a variety of alignments.
WEAKNESSES Wilson relied heavily on his athletic ability in college and runs with a very unconventional style that could get him in trouble at the next level. He will allow his pad level to get high when changing directions downfield, and he will get caught off guard with that style in the NFL. He isn't content with a 3-yard gain and will reverse field in an attempt to make a play out of nothing, another habit that won't end well in most cases. He needs to be more patient to let the plays and blocks come to him, rather than try to make everything happen on his own each time he gets the ball.
The guy was a 7th round pick, who they obviously don't have a ton of faith in. DJ Ware, who is average at best, was put on the field a ton more than Scott. If Bradshaw goes down, we were left with absolutely nothing at RB.
just said on MSG that they came into the draft with Wilson as their main target and a guy they expected to be there when they picked. He was also the highest rated player on their board when they picked.
for all the cranking about Jacobs, Bradshaw averaged a whole 4 inches more than Jacobs a carry and has two bad feet. Ware is Ware; a 3rd teamer and Scott, despite his devoted following here, is a straight line runner.
Yeah, maybe we could have got a running back later, but when you have a serious need at a position, you fill it as soon as you can.
mocks had Giants taking Martin or trying to trade up in the 2nd round to get Wilson. There was no way he was going to last in the 2nd round I thought. Bucs moving up to take Martin forced the Giants hand I think.
but he's the anti-Jacobs in a few ways: He has great balance, is hard to tackle, and he doesn't need a big hole to run through.
The fact they took him over any available OLs suggests they think the problems with the running game had a lot to do with the backs, not just the line.
Doesn't complment Bradshaw, he's almost a carbon copy
was the BPA, and that is how the Giants draft in every round. And Wilson is explosive, and had an incredible season last year. I would have preferred someone else or a trade down, but the pick is defensible, especially coming from Reese. Mayock also loves him.
I'm not sure this says that the Giants think that the problems with the running game were more in the backfield than with the OL. I think it just says that Wilson was the BPA.
I just think there were a number of better BPAs out there. And RB is a position you can draft almost anywhere and get a good players (Bradshaw, 7th round). Just my opinion. I hope he's really, really good.
He is more talented and a higher rated RB than any player we have added in years. Look what we get out of guys like Jacobs and Bradshaw. Wilson is far more talented coming out than either one of them ever was. The Giants need a threat in the ground game and he is a threat. The Giants could not enter the season with what they had at RB this season.
but I can't say I dont like what Im seeing/reading. I think its rare to find guys with his speed who are also willing and able to drop the hammer on a defender. Definitely plays with an attitude.
All the Fleener lovers are upset. LOL! I tried to tell you all no way, I tried to tell you a running back makes sense for the Giants, I thought it would be martin, but this guy works, a kick returner who ran back 2 TD's, a nice bonus we needed. 1700 yards, no need to defend the pick, we want to be BALANCED, now in round 2 I would love a wideout ot tight end, but who cares, the Giants know what they are doing a lot more then all the remote throwers. Go throw your remote, i think I will be happy to have this kid on the team. Welcome aboard.
and I thought about JPP and wondered who is gonna get this kid, never crossed my mind it would be the Giants, JPP said he could do those no hands backflips too. Usually have a strong opinion even if I am wrong, not this time though, surprised me.
First I gave up doubting Giants mgmt after they drafted several guys I never heard and couldn't pronounce their names and they turned out pretty good. Osi and Kiwi, then JPP too
Watching this kid on tape he looks like bradshaw with more speed. He is a heck of a runner, sets up defending players beautifully and has sick balance and speed and accelleration.
Someone wrote on one of the threads that he glides like he is on ice skates. That is exactly what it looked like.
Very exciting player and looks like our KR of the future
I didn't think the Giants WOULD take a RB in the 1st, even though they needed one. I specifically didn't want Wilson because I thought his running style coupled with his smaller size would present to great a risk of injury. But I hope I'm wrong.
The more video I've watched of him, the more I began to appreciate him. This kid is TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH! And the NY Giants have never had this kind of athletic talent at RB, EVER!
Now I want to see a complimentary short yardage back/blocker as an UDFA.
I assume he's got some other plans to actually put an offensive line that can actually open holes next season, because it hasn't happened for two seasons now.
I am reassured. He is a legitimate athlete and as JR pointed can even contribute to our return game in the near term. I think in the end, Bradshaw's is a lingering concern for management and if he had to miss a couple games early that meant we may have no running game at all. He adds depth to the offense in a position that we need it desperately. Besides that, he is apparently an earnest worker and great kid and those intangibles always impress us.
Bradshaw is going to miss some games, the guy runs so hard and I do not feel comfortable having DJ Ware taking the majority of the snaps. Da'rel Scott will have some competition. Bulk up on OL, WR, and TE's tomorrow. Great pick Jerry!
am happy for once with our pick. It's an odd feeling! LOL. But great pick, and once again we stuck to our draft board and balanced BPA with need. I am happy with this.
ACC player of the year with over 1700 yards against good teams. HE is a receiving threat and a kick returner. He could be playing his rookie year on specials to show us his skills and agility.
If he would have waited another year and put up similar numbers, he could have been a top 10 pick. I like it.

could really add another dimension to the offense
A little strange pick thought sure with Glenn there they'd pick him.
Sanu 2nd round?

It's not a difficult concept.

/sarcasm
Because it certainly wasn't the opinion of the Giants, who haven't missed on a first rounder in quite some time.
